American Cavalry Blueprint Library

Courtesy of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum

The world of the early 20th century American cavalryman can now be explored on-line thanks to the donation of the greatest treasure trove of American cavalry information ever gathered. More than 250 original blueprints, ranging from 1904 to 1940, have been released by the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum and are now available in this unique LRG-AF collection.

In addition to the legendary McClellan riding saddle and the famous Phillips pack saddle., all of the items once used on a daily basis by mounted troopers can now be inspected, including bridles, saddlebags, hobbles, stirrups, picket pins, farrier tools and hundreds of other cavalry paraphernalia.

This extraordinary act of scholastic generosity was authorized by Mr. Luther Hanson, Curator of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum. Since 1775 this special branch of the military has supported American soldiers via an unexpected number of services, including the procurement and training of horses and mules for military use.

With the release of these historically vital blueprints, the Quartermaster Museum has now encouraged the further study of the American cavalry by the international academic equestrian community. For more information on the astonishing collection of artifacts available for public inspection, please visit the Quartermaster Museum’s website - www.qmmuseum.lee.army.mil
